The actual term "lipstick" wasn't first used until 1880, however, people were coloring their lips long before that date. We have come a long way since 1884 when the first lipstick was sold commercially. This spring launched a flurry of color and textures for lips! Laura Mercier's new Lip Crayon gives a buildable coverage in a crayon shaped tube. Chanel introduced 14 new lipstick shades that will have you wanting all of them! I could go on and on, but it's best to come into Cos Bar and peruse for yourself!

National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. As a cancer survivor I know very well the impact a Nurse has on a patient. This week I invite all Nurses to visit Cos Bar for a token of our appreciation. Also Mother's Day is this Sunday. Mom will no doubt be ecstatic to receive a Cos Bar signature Leopard wrapped suprise. Follow us on Twitter to see our Mother's Day Luxury Gift Ideas!

Like You Stepped off the Yacht

With winter's chilly months behind us, we're eager to finally break out the sun dresses and sport a sunny glow. With the dangers of over exposure to the sun, most of us turn to self-tanners. I recently took on the challenge of how to find the right shade for every skin tone. Every complexion is a mix of all different colors, so to achieve the perfect bronzed look, you must know your undertones, the way you tan, and try to recreate nature. Here are a few pointers.

Be Prepared: The key here is to exfoliate and moisturize your skin before applying the self-tanner. A gritty exfoliant like Guerlain's Terracotta Sun Scrub followed by a moisturizer like Natura Bisse Diamond Body Cream will keep dry, flaky skin at bay.

Pale Skin: It's not always about making someone darker. In some cases, it's just about adding a healthy sheen to the skin, with a hint of color. Embrace the the pale skin tone, but add a fresh, modern finish. Avoid products with orangey tints, and look for gradual tanning lotions like St Tropez Gradual Tan.

Fair Skin: Fair skin has the tendency to be more ruddy than desired. Applying a yellow-based product will cancel out redness and even skin tone. Sunless tanners with buildable coverage, like St. Tropez's Bronzing Mousse are ideal for fair skin, as they let you work your way toward a darker shade while still looking natural.

Medium Skin Tones: Naturally bronzy and olive complexions tend to tan more deep brown than red or orange. Look for hydrating self-tanners that preserve the sun-kissed hue your skin already holds, like the St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Lotion.

Deep Skin Tones: So often I get asked, 'If you have a dark skin tone, does it make sense to use a self tanner?', and the answer is always yes! The St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Spray gives off the glow of a bronze goddess. It uses a unique technology that reacts with the melanin in your skin to provide your most natural dark color for an even, gorgeous finish. I have never offered so many self-tanning options in my boutiques until now! So no matter if you are the fairest of them all or already have a deep dark skin tone, you can find the perfect self-tanner at COS BAR that will make people think you just stepped off a yacht!

Of all the trends in bloom this season, the stark, opposites-attract-pairing of black and white sprouted the boldest spring statement. A modern twist on a timeless combination leaves makeup and nail possibilities endless! Nothing says fearless like a pop of color. I love to see a bold nail color paired with a graphic or a monochromatic outfit. Although stripes can be an unforgiving outfit, a nail color is always the perfect fit. From deborah lippmann to Guerlain's new La Laque Couleur, I have stocked my counters with all the nail polish options you could dream of. Lancome Wedding Day Animation launches 5 mini nail polishes that will tickle your fancy. Laura Mercier has endless shades of pink, nude, and coral for the perfect pop of fun. So no matter your age, size, occasion, mood or anything that comes in between, I suggest you swipe a color on those nails and do it fearlessly.
