National Cancer Survivors Day with our founder, Lily Garfield

National Cancer Survivors Day is an opportunity for cancer survivors to connect with other survivors, celebrate milestones, and acknowledge the contributions of the families, friends, healthcare providers, and researchers who have supported them along the way. It's a day for cancer survivors to stand together and show the world that life after a cancer diagnosis can be meaningful, fulfilling, and inspiring.

In support of National Cancer Survivors Day, Cos Bar is offering all local survivors who are living with and beyond cancer a complimentary makeup application or mini facial on June 2nd. We will also donate a portion of all proceeds on June 2nd to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center Moon Shots Program to support cancer research.

This cause is close to home as our founder, Lily Garfield, is a Cancer survivor herself. We caught up with Lily to chat about a day that’s so special to her.

Q: Why did you choose The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center?

A: "It was very easy to decide. MD Anderson was the number 1 cancer research hospital in the world. It was nothing to consider or reconsider. They were so accommodating during my time there. When I first arrived, I told them I needed to fit 10 days of testing in just 3 days (I had a golf tournament!) it was not an issue for the team there."

Q: What does National Cancer Survivor Day mean to you?

A: “It’s crazy, this was the week I was actually diagnosed 12 years ago. I didn’t want to let cancer define who I was. I made a promise to my two sons that I would be there for them. Through weddings, grandchildren, through it all. I’m happy and proud to say that I now have 7 grandchildren with one on the way! It’s important to celebrate those victories.”

Q: How do you continue to give back?

A: “Today, I’m on the executive board of MD Anderson- as we speak, the board and I are making things happen for a family that needs to get to MD Anderson as soon as possible. I always try to give back to those in need because I understand what they’re going through. If I can make something happen for someone in need I will always choose to give them that hope.”
