The new “normal” of wearing a face covering has altered our beauty routines, so we asked our expert beauty specialist and Cos Bar Lexington Store Manager, Alicia, on the best ways to bring out the eyes and prevent “maskne” (face acne) during these times. From keeping your complexion flawless to game-changing makeup tricks, get ready to revamp your everyday makeup routine for face coverings!

Step 1: Keep It Light

After cleansing and prepping your skin, use the Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer Broad Spectrum under the eyes and buff it out with a tapered blending brush. This will instantly brighten the eye area and cover any areas of concern. If you prefer to also wear foundation, I highly recommend using the La Mer Radiant Skin Tint SPF 30. It lightly evens out the skin tone and won’t clog pores. It’s one of my personal favorites as it’s skincare infused and gives a healthy glow to the complexion. My beauty mantra while wearing a face covering is to keep the look light so your skin can breathe!

Step 2: Awaken the Eyes

Since the main focal point while wearing a face covering is the eyes, making them look extra awake is key! The Sisley-Paris Les Phyto-Ombres Eyeshadows have become a recent must-have of mine. My go-to colors include Glow Pearl and Metallic Pink! I love to use Glow Pearl on the lids and inner corners of the eyes which instantly makes me look more awake. I pop Metallic Pink on the outer corner for color variation and it’s subtle enough to wear for an everyday natural eye look.

Step 3: Frame the Face

Now it’s time to frame the face! Use the Chantecaille Waterproof Brow Definer to fill and shape your brows. This brow pencil not only stays on throughout the day but the unique teardrop-shaped angle makes it super user friendly as well. I love that it includes a brow comb on the other end so you can easily brush the strokes out to create full, fluffy, and natural-looking brows.

Next, I tight-line my upper waterline with Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Gel Eyeliner in Pitch Black to create the illusion of fuller lashes. I’ve been using this trick for years and it’s my favorite tip to share with clients because it makes a huge difference in your everyday eye look.

Lastly, take your lashes to the next level with Tom Ford Badass Mascara. This mascara literally doubles the length of my lashes. Proof with the before and after image below!

Step 4: Goodbye Maskne

If you’re dealing with “maskne” (face acne caused by masks) right now, try the Dr.Barbara Sturm Clarifying Spot Treatment. I dab this to any spots I want to get rid of and see a noticeable difference by the morning. This cream contains tea tree oil and zinc oxide to help combat impurities while also healing the skin with Vitamin B3.

If you have sensitive skin as I do, try using the Slip Re-usable Face Covering. It truly has done wonders for my skin! This face covering is made out of 100% silk so it’s comfortable, soft, and doesn’t dry out my skin. I can’t stress how much it’s reduced my acne issues compared to when I was wearing a regular face covering.

Thank you Alicia for sharing with us your amazing tips and tricks! We can’t wait to try them out ourselves and hope they helped you as well on zapping maskne or accentuating your eyes! If you have further questions for Alicia or any of our other amazing beauty specialists, they are more than happy to help via a virtual or in-store beauty consultation! Wishing everyone all the best and to continue to stay safe!
