Let’s Talk Brushes: Blend, set, & elevate any look
Let’s be honest. Out of all the beauty products, makeup brushes usually don’t get as much hype or love compared to others. But, that doesn’t mean they are any less important! They play a key role in achieving a sultry smokey eye, blending foundation, contouring, and so much more. Join us as we take a deep dive behind our Cos Bar brushes (beloved by celebs!), inspired by our founder, Lily Garfield. Get ready to elevate your look by learning exactly how each brush will help you blend to perfection.
Choosing the Perfect Brush
There are countless brushes to choose from, but Lily’s inspiration behind creating the Cos Bar brushes was to “keep it simple” for busy women of all ages. The line includes 8 must-have brushes that are designed to apply the proper amount of product to make the most of your makeup. Soft, fluffy, and made out of high-quality ingredients, they won’t shed hairs on your face and help effortlessly blend product!
Whether you use a tinted moisturizer, concealer, or foundation, you’re in luck because we have brushes for all of these and more. If you’re using a full coverage foundation but want a natural look, the Sheer Foundation Brush is the one for you. The brush was specifically created to avoid the “caked on” makeup feel and instead gives skin an airbrushed finish. We suggest pairing it with Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Foundation which is a full coverage foundation that lasts 15-hours beautifully. This brush’s flat surface evenly buffs out the foundation so you won’t ever over-apply!
If you’re using a tinted moisturizer like the La Mer The Reparative Skintint SPF 30, use the Foundation Brush. The flat brush is great for applying precisely around the nose and under the eye area and helps create a no-makeup makeup look. For touchups, use the Concealer Brush which was designed to require minimal blending to avoid having to “work” the concealer with extra brush strokes. We love pairing it with the Clé de Peau Beauté Concealer Broad Spectrum Spf 25 as it not only provides coverage but has fantastic ingredients that nourish the skin.
To set your tinted moisturizer, concealer, or foundation, use the Powder Brush. The domed brush head picks up the perfect amount of powder for a smooth application. Dab some Sisley-Paris Phyto-Poudre Libre Powder for a flawless finish and take a moment to enjoy the heavenly soft bristles against your skin.
It’s time to contour and add a pop of color! The Blush Brush will come in handy for adding blush or bronzer. We are loving the Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tinted Highlight Peau de Soleil, which has a complex soft-focus effect which gives a beautiful luminous result. The incredible softness of the Blush Brush hairs only takes a few sweeping motions from back to front to achieve a sunkissed glow.
For blush, we recommend using the Sheer Blush Brush to avoid over application. The Tom Ford Cheek Color or Sisley-Paris L’Orchidee works perfectly for adding a flush of color to the cheeks. Take the Sheer Blush Brush, dab the brush into the powder and sweep onto cheeks. No need to blow off excess as again, the brush was designed to only pick up just the right amount of product!
The face is never completely framed until the eyebrows are finished. To achieve thicker-looking brows, use the Eyebrow Brush. First, take the spoolie and brush your brow hairs up to see where you are sparse. After that, take the angled end with a brow powder such as the Bobbi Brown Brow Kit to draw a line and fill in the gaps. Flip to the spoolie end again and brush hairs up to blend and you will instantly see thicker, natural, and fuller brows!
Moving on to eyes, we all know that high-quality eyeshadow brushes are key to achieving dreamy looks for the eyes. An eye shadow palette such as Yves Saint Laurent Couture Variation Palette is perfect for creating a day or night time look.
To start, use the Eye Smudge Brush with a lighter eyeshadow color. This brush is stiff enough to smudge color along the base of the lashes and wide enough to apply eyeshadow to the upper and lower lids. Sweep the lighter eyeshadow onto the entire upper lid and add a little into the inner corners of the eyes.
Now take a darker color into the crease with the Eye Blender Brush, which is a fluffy brush that aids in blending everything together. Keeping a still hand, simply wiggle the Blender Brush to apply the color and voila, you’re all set!
Ready to Go
When it comes to cleaning your brushes, we recommend washing your brushes at least every two weeks with a gentle cleanser such as the Beautyblender liquid blender cleanser. An important step, as we have a feeling that you won’t want to go a day without your trusty Cos Bar brushes!
Flawless skin: check. Natural blush: check. Full brows: check. Dashing eyes: check. Now just apply your favorite lipstick and feel confident in being a master of beauty brushes! We hope you master the art of makeup brushes and elevate your look with each stroke. Happy blending!
